Coordinator School Health 8 Components

Coordinated School Healthis an effective system designed to connect health (physical, emotional and social) with education. This coordinated approach improves students' health and their capacity to learn through the support of families, communities and schools working together. The Office of Coordinated School Health works with many partnersto address school health priorities.

The Coordinated School Health (CSH) model is a method of connecting health and learning that consists of eight inter-related components. This approach constitutes a systems change by improving students' health and their capacity to learn through personal responsibility, and the support of families, communities and school.

By definition all Coordinated School Health components work together to improve the lives of students and their families. Although these components are listed separately, it is their composite which allows CSH to have significant impact. A list ofdefinitionsof each component is available in printable format.

School Counselor Goals:

1. Student counseling services are provided by counselors for ALL students, through individual and /or small group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, collaborative meetings with parents, and consultations with teachers, staff and community stakeholders.
2. The comprehensive school counseling program focuses on identifying and teaching students those skills that are developmentally appropriate to maximize the success of every student mentally and emotionally using the American School Counseling Association model.
3. Each school counseling program develops goals and programs delivery bases on their school data and identified needs related to achievement for specifically designed activities and interventions for students.

School Counselor Beliefs:

1. All students can achieve and meet high standards that will result in college and career readiness.
2. To address the developmental needs of all students a comprehensive school counseling program is needed using state and national standards planned, managed, delivered and evaluated by professional, licensed school counselors.
3. The school counselor's role as a leader in the schools is to advocate for all students, support teachers and administrators, collaborate with parents and community and provide services to ensure the maximum growth of every individual student.
4. Guiding the development of the comprehensive schoolcounseling program is the through analysis of school and student data to maximize student achievement.
5. Adhering to the ASCA Ethical Standards for school counselors ensures a quality of professionalism assuring the highest moral principals are applied.

The goals of the Jefferson County Adult High School are to (1) help at-risk students from Jefferson County High School attain a diploma, (2) increase the Jefferson County graduation rate, and (3)provide an alternative to dropping out of school.

Jefferson County Adult High School Resource Folder

Jefferson Academy (JA) is the Jefferson County School District's alternative school program for grades 6 through 12. JA was founded in the summer of 2009 with collaborative support from the Jefferson County Juvenile Court System, Carson Newman University, Cherokee Health Systems, and other community agencies. The program is supported by an advisory board of representatives from community agencies. The school system provides the teachers, school curriculum, and all academic functions. Current capacity of JA is 65 students serving Jefferson, Maury, White Pine, and Rush Strong Middle Schools as well as Jefferson County High School.

JA was established to serve eligible Jefferson County middle and high school students who have been targeted for expulsion or long-term suspension, or for at risk students who are having a great deal of academic, emotional, or behavioral problems. The principals from each school refer these student to JA. Once designated for placement, an intake interview will be scheduled with the student and parent(s).

Yearly registration fees are charged at the beginning of each school year for all returning students or when a new student enrolls. This fee covers costs associated with preparation for the Fall Program.

Transportation from schools that do not offer SACC may be available to campuses offering this program.

Please note:

• The summer program will be closed Wednesday, July 3rd to Friday, July 5th.
• All weeks will be charged at the full weekly rate.
• You will not be charged for a full week of vacation if you give at least 2 weeks notice.
• Some field trips may have additional fees. Notice will be given in advance if this occurs.
• Drop off must be by 10:30 unless you have a doctors appointment
• SACC reserves the right to determine that a child cannot attend a field trip based on a safety assessment.
• Summer hours are 6:30 am until 6:00pm. Breakfast, lunch, and a snack are included by school nutrition through the month of June. After that breakfast and snack will be provided. All students must bring their own sack lunch and water bottle the month of July. Please have child bring their own water bottle.
• All rates are subject to change.
